Nintendo 64

Favorite Games: Super Mario 64, Mario Kart 64, Donkey Kong 64. More to come.

This a console which set the basis for famous open world games. Some people say it was Zelda, I say it was Super Mario 64 because it came first. This console pushed 3D graphics to the max (past PC graphics at the time) and had smooth shading (PS was also capable of Gouraud Shading but not texture interpolation) on textures which wasn't seen often by consoles at the time, it was rather an arcade machine feature.

The controller is pretty weird, but it's made to be held differently depending on the situation (game), it's the only home console system (not counting the Wii U because it can play Radiant Dawn) that did not get a Fire Emblem release, but knowing the graphic capabilities it would probably look pretty weird (although some great graphics are possible on this system), the GameCube releases and on got impressive graphics for their respective systems.

It was not Nintendo's first true 3D console, that would go to the SNES, using cartridges with the Super FX chip. Older games used other techniques. For example, using the parallax effect you don't even need a 3D accelerator. The console features a lot of interesting techniques for 3D rendering and could output up to 480i (almost twice the amount of the NES)

I find a lot of games from this device to have nostalgic music, especially the Zelda and Mario games!

I can recommend the console for anyone not paying the extra costs for the full NSO subscription and wanting to own the physical games. It's not for everyone, the controller might not satisfy some people. The games (especially getting one complete with booklet and box) are not cheap as well.
